Stephen Toevs
Chef Stephen Toevs currently serves as Senior Director of Culinary Development for Marriott Luxury Brands, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland.
Chef Stephen spent his early years shucking clams and fishing off the waters of Narragansett Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island. Throughout this adolescence, he was fascinated by the food around him, his Portuguese heritage, and Julia Child. At sixteen Stephen began cooking at a local clam shack, and later Italian restaurants throughout the Providence area. After studying engineering in college and working in restaurant kitchens to support his school tuition, Stephen decided to pursue his passion and formalize his culinary training.
Since graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 2003, Chef Toevs has been with Marriott International for over 19 years, beginning his career at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention center outside Houston, Texas. Chef Toevs has also held culinary roles throughout the United States to include JW Marriott Scottsdale, The Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix where he was nominated for Marriott’s rising star award, The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead and in the Caribbean at The Ritz-Carlton Aruba. It was in Aruba Chef Stephen donated his time to local charities that restored historical landmarks and started a mentorship program with the local culinary school. Now living in Bethesda, Maryland Chef Stephen puts a lot time into community food rescue, a local charity that turns unused and unwanted food into meals for homeless shelters and in need organizations. Stephen also enjoys building BBQ smokers, CrossFit, and spending time with his wife, two children and his golden retriever Daisy.
